Conferences The Korean Association of Women's History (KAWH) hosted its first international conference at Ewha Women's University, Seoul, on 24-25 August 2011 with the title of "East Asian Women Who Have Created "Herstory": Women's Leadership in History". This conference was sponsored by the Korean Research Foundation, Northeast Asian History Foundation and Ministry of Gender Equality & Family of Korea. About 40 prominent scholars of women's history attended the conference, including Professor Sugano Noriko (Japan), Chen Yan (China), Deng Xiaonan (China), Chung Hyun Back (South Korea) etc. from Japan, China, South Korea. They exhanged ideas on comparative history, while discussing several issues such as the promotion of international cooperation of Asian scholars of women's history. The special issue of Women and History, the KAWH's biannual journal, December 2011 will be composed with papers presented in this conference. On 4-5 November 2011, the Korean Association of Women's History (KAWH) participated in the 54th Annual Historical Convention of Korea entitled "Beyond the Border: Migration and Diaspora in History," organized by the Korean Historical Association (KHA).Over 1000 people participated for two days in the conference. KAWH participated as a regular panel member in this conference, titled "Migration History and Women's Experiences," on 5 November. Specialized themes of KAWH were for example, women's migration as a transnational trend, North Korean escapee women and their experiences, migration women in multi-cultural trend, and voices of an activist at Women Migrants Human rights Center (WMHC), etc. Besides, KAWH have held monthly colloquiums, one workshop a year and joint conference, in conjunction with The Academic Society of Feminism and Korean Literature(ASFKL) and Korean Association of Feminist Philosophers(KAFP) every two years. |
